An
abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck, is a surgical
procedure to remove excess skin and fat from middle and
lower abdomen. This is done to tighten the muscles of
the abdomen. This procedure gives excellent results to
those desiring a flatter, well defined abdomen. Patients
who have concerns about large fat deposits and loose saggy
skin and whose bodies won't respond to daily exercise
are good candidates.
What
makes Dr. Byuns approach different from other surgeons?
Amazingly, Dr. Byuns technique involves such precision
that the scars are extremely minimal. He creates an incision
along the bikini line, therefore the minimal scar is hidden
by simply wearing your own undergarment. He separates
the skin from the abdominal wall and lifts a large skin
flap to reveal the vertical muscles in your abdomen. The
excess skin is naturally tightened and stitched. This
provides a firmer abdominal wall and narrows the waistline.
A temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid
from the surgical site.
How
much down time is involved?
Ten days after surgery, a post surgery appointment is
necessary. During this appointment, Dr. Byun will address
future instructions, as well as take out some sutures.
You may find some sutures still in place; they will be
intact until Dr. Byun feels proper healing has transpired.
Some people return to work after two weeks, while others
take three or four weeks to fully recuperate. Any extraneous
exercise is prohibited, light exercise is recommended.
Your scars may appear to worsen, this is normal. But expect
the scars to diminish gradually.
