What Is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is a non-surgical, physician-administered, injectable treatment that can smooth modern to severe frown lines around the brows in patients from the age of 18 to 65, as well as a great maintenance option for Dr. BYUN’s famous facial repair procedures.
The injection is made from a purified protein from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria and targets the muscles that cause frown lines around the brows by relaxing them and reducing their activity.
Is BOTOX® FDA Approved?
Yes, it is the only treatment of its type to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Results can vary between people but the effects of BOTOX® can last up to four months. Though its cosmetic benefits had been researched since the late 1980’s, in April 2002, the FDA approved the usage of BOTOX® (botulinum toxin type A) to treat frown lines near the glabellar lines. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women saw an improvement in the appearance of their lines one month after treatment.
What Is The Treatment Like?
It is quick, nonsurgical, and minimally invasive. The treatment only involves a few small injections into the facial muscles and causes little discomfort. Ice can be used to both numb the area and constrict the blood vessels to help prevent bruising. Patients often say the sensation of discomfort is similar to a bug bite. Better yet, there is no recovery time.

The injections take about ten minutes, and you may resume normal activity immediately.
When Will I See Results From BOTOX®?
You may see noticeable improvement within mere days. Improvement of lines can continue for up to four months.
How Long Does BOTOX® Last?
Results can last for as long as four months, but continual treatment every few months can prevent frown lines from returning to their pre-treatment appearance.
Will I Experience Any Side Effects?
The most common side effects are headache, mild swelling, bruising near injection site, and tenderness near injection site.
Less than three percent of people have adverse reactions. These reactions may cause pain in the face, erythema (reddening of the skin) at the injection site, muscle weakness, temporary eyelid droop, nausea, respiratory infection, and flu-like symptoms. These primarily only occur within the first week, and Dr. BYUN’s skilled surgical team will assist you should a reaction like this occur.
Will My Facial Expressions Continue To Look Natural?
Though there are easily visible results, BOTOX® will not radically change your entire facial appearance or make it look as though you have undergone a surgical procedure. The muscles that cause frown lines have simply had their activity reduced. Therefore, you can still frown and look surprised, but you will not have wrinkles or creases between your brows.
What Will Happen To The Frown Lines Between My Brows If I Choose Not To Continue Treatments?
Nothing negative. The lines around your brows will just gradually return to their pre-treatment appearance.
