What is a Browlift?
A forehead lift, or brow lift, can relieve that same “tired” look that is treated by a facelift, except it targets a different area of the face. It alleviates those drooping eyebrows, the “hood” over your eyes, forehead furrows, and frown lines, giving the forehead and unblemished appearance. People will often underestimate the effect that a sagging forehead has on aging: patients who undergo this surgery often appear to lose years of age after this procedure.
What Does a Brow Lift Improve?
Innovative Midwestern plastic surgeon Dr. BYUN repairs the damage aging has on the muscles and skin in the forehead, which smooths the forehead, elevates the upper eyelids, and eliminates frown lines. This procedure can be done alone or in tandem with other procedures like a facelift or nose reshaping. Both men and women frequently receive this procedure.
Endoscopic Brow Lift Technique
Dr. BYUN will utilize three to five small incisions, each less than an inch, in the scalp to insert an endoscope (a thin, flexible optical imager) in order to examine the skin and muscles of the forehead. Once the targeted area is identified, an instrument is inserted into another incision to lift the skin while the muscles and tissue underneath are manipulated. At this point, the eyebrows can also be repositioned as desired to assist in the smoothing of the forehead by using sutures under the skin or screws behind the hairline. The incisions are then closed with stitches or clips and the area is washed to conclude the surgery. Gauze or an elastic bandage will be used to cover the forehead incisions.
Within one or two days following surgery, or whenever the bandages are removed, you can resume showering. There may be minor swelling and bruising, but these can be concealed with makeup almost immediately after the conclusion of surgery. Most of the visible signs of surgery should vanish within two to three weeks.
The BYUN Approach to Natural Brow Rejuvenation
Dr. Michael BYUN approaches brow lift surgery with a focus on natural facial balance and long-term rejuvenation. Rather than creating an overly elevated or “surprised” appearance, the goal is to restore a refreshed, youthful brow position while maintaining your unique facial expressions and anatomy.
Using advanced endoscopic brow lift techniques, Dr. BYUN is able to reposition underlying tissues through small, discreet incisions hidden within the hairline. This minimally invasive approach helps reduce visible scarring, minimize downtime, and create smoother, more refined results. Every procedure is customized to the patient’s facial structure, skin elasticity, and aesthetic goals to ensure results look elegant and natural from every angle.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Brow Lift?
A brow lift may be an excellent option for patients experiencing signs of aging in the upper face and forehead. Ideal candidates often notice drooping brows, forehead wrinkles, hooded upper eyelids, or a tired or heavy appearance around the eyes.
Patients in good overall health who want to achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance without looking overdone are typically strong candidates for brow lift surgery. During your consultation, Dr. BYUN will evaluate your facial anatomy, skin quality, and cosmetic goals to determine whether a brow lift or combination procedure is right for you.
Brow Lift Recovery and Downtime
Recovery after a brow lift is typically well tolerated, especially with modern endoscopic techniques. Most patients experience mild swelling, tightness, and bruising during the first one to two weeks following surgery. These effects gradually improve as healing progresses.
Many patients feel comfortable returning to work and social activities within 7 to 10 days, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for several weeks. Keeping the head elevated and following post-operative instructions carefully can help support a smooth recovery process. As swelling resolves, patients begin to notice a more refreshed, youthful, and naturally lifted appearance.
Brow Lift and Eyelid Surgery Combination
A brow lift is commonly combined with eyelid surgery to achieve more comprehensive upper facial rejuvenation. In many patients, drooping brows contribute to excess upper eyelid skin and a tired appearance around the eyes.
By combining a brow lift with upper blepharoplasty, Dr. BYUN can address both the brow position and eyelid contour for smoother, more balanced results. This combination approach may improve hooded eyes, restore a more open appearance, and create natural-looking rejuvenation throughout the upper face while maintaining facial harmony.
How Long Do Brow Lift Results Last?
Brow lift results are long-lasting and can help patients maintain a more youthful appearance for many years. While the natural aging process continues over time, repositioning the brow and forehead tissues can significantly reduce sagging and improve upper facial contours.
Many patients continue to enjoy their results for 10 years or longer depending on factors such as skin quality, lifestyle, genetics, and sun exposure. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and proper skincare routine may help prolong the longevity of your brow lift results.
How Much Does a Brow Lift Cost in Chicago?
The cost of a brow lift in Chicago can vary depending on the surgical technique used, the complexity of the procedure, and whether additional facial rejuvenation procedures are performed at the same time.
Factors that may influence pricing include the surgeon’s expertise, anesthesia fees, facility costs, and the extent of correction required. During your consultation, Dr. BYUN will develop a personalized treatment plan and provide detailed pricing information based on your unique goals and anatomy.
Brow Lift FAQ
Is a brow lift permanent?
A brow lift provides long-lasting improvement, but it does not stop the natural aging process. Over time, skin and facial tissues continue to age naturally. However, patients typically continue to look younger and more refreshed compared to if the procedure had never been performed.
What is the best age for a brow lift?
There is no specific “best” age for a brow lift. Many patients consider the procedure in their 40s to 60s when signs of brow descent and forehead aging become more noticeable. However, candidacy depends more on anatomy and cosmetic concerns than age alone.
Will a brow lift change my eye shape?
A properly performed brow lift should enhance the appearance of the eyes without dramatically changing their natural shape. Elevating the brow can create a more open, refreshed look while preserving facial balance and natural expression.
Does an endoscopic brow lift leave scars?
An endoscopic brow lift uses small incisions typically hidden within the hairline, making visible scarring minimal for most patients. As healing progresses, scars generally become difficult to detect.
Can a brow lift fix hooded eyes?
In many cases, a brow lift can improve hooded eyes caused by sagging brows and forehead tissue. Some patients may also benefit from combining a brow lift with eyelid surgery to address excess eyelid skin more comprehensively.
